Why does an air-conditioner need to be balanced anyway?

The simple answer is that when your air-conditioner is balanced, all of the ducted rooms in your house receive the correct air volume, therefore maintaining the desired temperature.

Otherwise you’re up and down turning rooms on and off, running around constantly adjusting the temperature settings, trying to keep the desired air temperature by ‘manually’ adjusting your air-conditioner. It’s just not necessary.

This lack of air balancing also leads to, or can be indicative of, too much ‘back pressure’ on some of the ducting in your air-conditioner system. This can reduce the life of your air conditioner, increase the likelihood for breakdowns and required maintenance. In turn, excessive ‘back pressure’ on some of the ducting can lead to premature ducting breakages and also excessive noise.
